Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you – guard it
with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. 2 Timothy 1:14
Looking at a bank statement can create a level of anxiety for some, especially when on a fixed income.
We wonder how to make the little we have grow, yet hesitate to risk a loss by moving it into an account that
may render a greater return in less time. The wrong decision could wipe out all that was acquired during
years of hard work and sacrifice. So we keep it safe, guarded in an insured environment. The growth is slow, but steady.
God has entrusted us with so many good things! Good things that require our steadfast attention.
Our faith is one of those good things. A faith that can grow slow and steady if we guard it well; preserving it
with a devoted heart, a desire to follow Christ’s teachings, a craving to learn all we can through Scripture, prayer and the sacraments, and surrounding ourselves with faith-filled people. The Holy Spirit is our
insurance that there is help in our endeavors; there is help just a thought away to make this deposit in our
souls grow.
This Scripture passage gives us great assurance that we are not alone in our efforts to guard with care all
the gifts God has entrusted us with. Whether it is our faith or our finances, in all things we can call on the Holy
Spirit and He will guide us in our decision making. With faith-filled hearts, we can be certain that those deposits He has entrusted us with, will be guarded well.
Holy Spirit, thank you for guarding me and guiding me in all things!.
