O Lord, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have covered my head in the day of battle. Psalm 140:7
Blankets, soft, warm and snuggly; were you one of those who nearly totally covered your head with them at bedtime when you were a kid? Maybe you still sleep that way. There was a feeling of comfort and protection; and for me anyway, my blankets blotted out the noise of a television, radio or adults chatting in another room close by. In our house, with so many of us, there was little quiet time and we were all in close proximity of one another. With my head almost completely covered, I slept soundly; cozy and secure, safe from any of the night time scary thoughts little ones have. In recollection, my children went to sleep that way as well! And I see my grandchildren doing the same; their parents, as all previous generations did; uncovering little heads over and over throughout a night.
Like a comfortable blanket we wrap ourselves up in, God covers us with His protection in times of uncertainty, fear, when we are assaulted by frightening thoughts, and when facing difficulties placed before us. When things get ahead of you and feelings of security and comfort seem illusive; think about or actually wrap yourself up in a cozy blanket and meditate on God’s love for you – and remember . . . God is always with us!
Thank you for your protection and overwhelming love Lord! You keep us covered and safe, wrapped in your loving arms. Abba! Father! We are yours!
