April 3
he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5
No matter how much I do in a day, on reflection in my bed at night I feel disappointed and troubled thinking about all I neglected to do, especially involving those whom I had planned to be in contact with and didn’t. Somehow in the busyness of daily activities those people and things that were considered important to me got swallowed up, and I feel discouraged by my lack of ability to prioritize as Jesus would have wanted me to. I feel like Martha - I can be worried about and busy with so many things.
Then I am reminded of Paul’s words to Titus and I am encouraged once again! How good God is to us! We are not left alone as we struggle with this ever present dilemma. No matter how righteous our ways are, no matter how much effort we put into doing the “right” thing, no matter how we appear to others, the bottom line is that God, in His mercy has already saved us through his son, Jesus Christ! Through our Baptism in Christ, we are part of His family. And we are humbled. We can pick ourselves up in the morning as we go about our responsibilities and try again to perform acts of love and kindness for those in our lives to the best of our ability, hopefully free of the egotistical attitude that we alone, are in control of it all. We can turn our energy to God first, in gratitude for His mercy and with an open heart, desire to be lead where he wants us to be.
Oh Holy Savior, thank you for your gift of mercy! Fill us with your Holy Spirit to help us on this daily journey toward you!
Please remember in your prayers Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy whose funeral Mass is being held this morning. Remember also his family and friends as well as all first responders across the United States of America.
