November 3
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:13
This morning one of the weather men in our area stated, “It’s a hat, coat and mittens kind of day!” Sure enough the little ones at the school bus stop across the street are bundled up in their winter layers, looking like multi colored, sturdy little puff balls with back backs just as colorful, strapped to their rounded bodies. Their breath hung in the air; the rising curls visible as they giggled and chitchatted while scrambling to be first in line to get out of the cold wind and inside the bus.
The first snowflakes of the season fell yesterday during another Northeast storm that hit our area. Leaves shuddered on the trees and began to fall like rain, while gale force winds blew; most of them had not yet fallen and many, still green, clung to the trees as though winter would never come. It has been fairly mild here, despite storms and one could almost feel their sense of shock at this sudden change in temperature. While the leaves shivered, so did I every time I left my home. Why wasn’t I prepared for the cold weather to come? It’s not as though it doesn’t come around every year! Yet it always seems to sneak up on us somehow, or is it maybe we just want to put off the inevitable until we really have to face it, for we know that once it’s here, it’s here for the long haul.
It is important to be prepared and God bless all the parents and care takers out there who are organized and prepared in an effort to keep the ones in their charge safe, warm and secure. And aren’t we blessed? For God keeps us in His constant care - comforted and protected! He provides for us an armor of Faith to keep us safe and secure. We never have to worry about being unprepared for whatever life sends our way.
Our comfort and unyielding strength is in you, oh Lord!
