“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Luke 9:20
Who do we say God is?
Abba, Father, Glorious One, Creator of Heaven and Earth, Heavenly King, Prince of Peace, Light of the World,
God most high, Almighty One, Giver of all good things, Loving Father, Morning Star, All powerful One, Ever loving One, Friend of my Soul, Light of my Life, Giver of all Life, My Rock, Omnipotent One, Lamb of God, Holy Spirit, Spring of Life, Breath of Life, Dearest of my Soul, Holy One, Magnificent One, Father of all mankind, Merciful Savior, Sacred Heart, Dazzling Light, The Alpha and the Omega, Source of all light, Lover of all mankind, The One who knew us before we were born, Gracious One, “Father, Son and Holy Spirit”,
Guiding Light, Son of the Father . . . .
These are words of praise, but do we really feel them? Do we really know God? Is it even possible? In
praise we glance toward our Heavenly Father, stretching our spirits forth in an effort to reach Him in our
simple, human way. But it is only in our humbleness, with a heart and soul filled with adoration . . . and patient waiting, that we can ever hope to begin to try to understand the depth of God’s love for us; and when we meditate on any word of praise we whisper or shout, inside or out - a part of Him will be revealed to us - His presence will be known.
But, with all this being said, it is easy to deny that we know him in today’s world, perhaps in any time of human existence. Do you ever deny knowing Him? Who do you say He is?
Help me to know who you are, my God! May I never deny that I am yours.
