Bless the Lord, Oh my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy
name! Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
Psalm 103: 1-3
Taking the fact that The Boston Red Sox won the World Series last night out of the equation, did you ever notice that some days you get up in the morning and your spirit is light and uplifted for no apparent reason or another? There were no changes in your life that were significant enough to remember. There was no celebratory event the day before or planned for this particular day for that matter; no special person you intend to be with on this day; not even World Series games to look forward to! It is just a plain, old ordinary day. Or is it?
When we stop to think of God’s goodness to us; not one day is ordinary; not one day is without being an amazing extraordinary gift! Whether it brings joy or sadness, we are reassured that He is there. His benefits to us are in constant motion, giving us whatever it is we need; taking us wherever we should be; giving us the necessary strength and courage to meet our challenges; showering us with spiritual, emotional and physical healing as is essential to our well-being; providing material goods to sustain us; and blessing us with forgiveness when our failings have gotten the better of us.
We may not even notice God working in our lives, but our spirit does, and without a doubt lets us know. So on those days when you feel on top of the world within; when despite the suffering you may be enduring, your spirit is dancing to a song you can not hear; on those occasions when you don’t know why, but reflecting on the day that passed, you realize that you feel inexplicably good; and when you are bursting with praise to God from the joy you feel within; you can be certain that God has done something wonderful in your life!
For all your benefits to us; for everything good that comes our way, we bless your holy name, dear God!
Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox – World Series Champions!
To all the trick-or-treaters out there, have a safe and Happy Halloween!
