And to make everyone see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things . . . and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:9-19
It seems almost everyone likes a good mystery. On a gloomy New England day like today, with gray skies, cool temperatures and showers, and leaves turning gold-brown from brilliant orange and red, it conjures up images of freezing cold winter nights and perhaps more opportunity to snuggle up with a warm blanket, in front of the fireplace with the latest mystery novel.
And as much as I personally am not the biggest fan of mysteries, attending a Mystery Dinner Theater on occasion with friends has been intriguing. But I have found that I am really not as good as I think at solving those mysteries. It seems that seeing both sides of things, I am frequently more skeptical of those who are completely uninvolved - unless I follow my gut, my instinct. It has proven time and time again for me, in many, many situations, that my instinct is always correct. Often when I allow my intellect to supersede that instinct, redirect it if you will, then my direction has a tendency to become confused.
But there is one mystery that God has made plain to you and I. No matter how much we delve into Scripture or are confused by it; no matter how often we hear a sermon on this very basis of our Faith, unless we allow our instinct – our spirit and soul to experience it – to be open to it without distraction - we do not fully feel the measure of His love, even though it is ever present. The love of God, through our Lord and Savior Jesus is a gift to each one of us. We are heirs to His kingdom! There is no mystery in this. All He asks is that we open our hearts to Him! How awesome is our God!
Oh God, how you fill us with joy at the very thought of the depth of love you have for everyone and everything you have created! We are humbled and grateful.
