But this word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, the man of God.
2 Chronicles 11:2
I wonder sometimes, did God whisper to Shemaiah? Did He wake him up in the middle of the night? Did God nudge him in his heart until Shemaiah finally stopped what he was doing and shook his head in disbelief?
Does God’s word come to us? We seem to expect that our religious leaders would be privy to this; but us? Are we also inspired by God? Yes! He undoubtedly speaks to each one of us. Were not those who were inspired to record God’s Word ordinary people, like you and I? In the presence of any of God’s creation, there is communication, in one form or another. If we are made in God’s image, than why would He not speak directly to us? We are His children, His very hands and feet and voice on this earth. He tugs at our hearts with nudging that most of us pay little attention to.
We have subtle ideas and thoughts that are constantly coming to us; when we are awake during the night, in the wee hours of the morning, driving our car, when we are outside convening with nature, during a religious service or meditating, and perhaps even in the grocery store. These ideas seem to spring up from nowhere in particular, out of the blue so to speak. More often than not, as those thoughts are quickly replaced with other needs, requests and concerns, we disregard them. Then one day it becomes obvious that the nudging persists. We have underestimated the importance of these inspired thoughts and God’s perseverance in His attempt to reach us.
At some point each day, stop and think about what God is trying to communicate to you. Consider recording or sharing those thoughts. Remember, He told us He is always with us; that His love is everlasting and He wants only the best for us; to show us the way. If we listen when God’s voice is quietly, gently whispering, we may just be surprised with the message He has for us, and we just may shake our heads in disbelief.
Thank God, for never giving up on us. May we keep our ears and hearts open to the word you have for each of us.
Pray for the people in the Philippines and their families. Consider donating to a reliable charity that will provide much needed assistance to them. God have mercy on us all.
