But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Oh how I love this Scripture verse! As I’ve noted before, having my parents and older siblings all gone before me, never mind many other loved ones and friends, this fills me with the hope of a joyous reunion down the road! God tells us in this Scripture though, that there is absolutely no way we could ever begin to imagine what He has prepared for us! Yet I am quite guilty of trying to do just that, and can get caught up in “earthly” imaginings as most of us do. I love to envision a huge, bright, colorful house, comfortable and filled with light, flowers, lush greenery and all our pets, happily beside us. I imagine each of us having our own space in this house of many rooms (John 14:2), yet at the same time we gather together just enjoying one another’s company. But, how could we possibly know what is beyond here? Well, throughout Scripture, God gives us glimpses of the reality of His promise. In the gift of faith we know that there is a place beyond our description.
During those moments of utter joy in our lives: the sight of a loved one, experiencing milestone events, accomplishing an amazing achievement requiring physical endurance, sights in nature or listening to a musical piece that take our breath away . . . these are just a few of the many moments that fill us with exhilaration, love, joy, contentment and tenderness . . . moments that sometimes leave us shaking our heads in disbelief that there could be such happiness . . . these moments give us a tiny glimmer of the joy God has waiting for us. Still, we try to picture just how it will be. We try to imagine reuniting with loved ones who have already left this earth and God clearly tells us it is not possible! What awaits us is beyond our present comprehension! And all of it is ours, just because He loves us, because we are His.
Heavenly Father, in hope we wait, with patience we wait, in love we know that we are never separated from You and those we love.
