Because you are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you . . Isaiah 43:4
Dawn is just breaking very early this cool, summer morning and outside my window the squawking, baby birds are demanding their parents feed their hungry little bellies. If I didn’t have to get up and prepare for a busy day ahead, I’d most likely find all the noise quite annoying! But instead, today I am finding it fascinating as I meditate. We pay so little attention to something so ordinary as these beautiful, colorful creatures. Birds of all varieties that frequent the way stations in our back yard, are diligently working to keep their babies filled, to protect them from more aggressive birds and other predators, and to teach them all that is necessary to live; stopping at practically nothing to do all it takes to see that they survive! Their babies are precious to them!
When any of our grandchildren call, either by phone or visit, my immediate response to that little one is, “Hi my precious (boy or girl)!” It began spontaneously. When they were babies the words just popped out from my heart! Now, hearing those words from me, the kids faces light up! They are precious to me, more so than I ever could have imagined, to the point that it actually hurts sometimes, especially when I know they are hurting or misunderstood. I only want the best for them, find it difficult to see them in any discomfort and would protect them from harm with my life. All the history of the family, especially their parents and the family members that have gone before, I want to share with them, telling stories that often keep them spell bound. Through my actions I want to do all it takes to see that they know just how loved they are, not only by me, but most importantly by the One who created them. For when I think about how precious they are to me, I begin to understand in a very limited way, how precious they (and we), are to Him!
This verse in Isaiah is beautiful! How God has loved us since before time began! How much He wants us to know this, to understand that He will do all it takes to protect us from harm, to teach us the ways of Life, to show us just how loved we are and how precious we are to Him! He is an awesome God!
God of all creation, we thank you for loving us so, for demonstrating in all the people and creatures around us glimpses of your everlasting love!
