“. . . And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.“
Matthew 28:20
The news these past few weeks has been awful! Everywhere I have turned any reports that meet my ears or eyes, seem to be sad, devastating or frightening, and overwhelming to say the least. When we constantly hear so much sadness around us, we are left feeling helpless and often don’t know what to do, if anything. At the same time, we don’t want to become complacent with these events, even though they may appear to be far beyond our ability to change.
Every person we meet, every community we are in, every country we hear of, has a story of its own heartaches, sorrows, joys, successes, failures and challenges that are being coped with. One of my favorite expressions is “No one gets a free ride.” No person on earth escapes what it means to be human, of facing life each day with just what we hold in our hand and heart.
The hope is that during these tough times, we remember to hold first onto God, to hold prayer in our hands and hearts and not let go. Those of us with Faith know the depth of this message Jesus gives us in this passage from Matthew. “I am with you always!” It should bring us to our knees. No matter what we face or how lost and frustrated we feel, holding on to His hand will see us through. We will never be helpless with God beside us. No matter the news, no matter how strongly we feel unable to handle any more of it, we can remain unyielding to it, and hold on in hope, for He is never going to abandon us.
Heavenly Father, be with all who are in turmoil today; all who are suffering. Soothe aching hearts and bodies and with your love, keep us strong.
