Again Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
A cold rain is falling, and although it’s now 7:20 a.m. as I fill the bird feeder, it appears more like dusk than dawn. Even the birds are hesitating to show their faces it is so dark! Although I do love the rain, the weather conditions seem to cast a somber shadow on what typically would be a glittering fall morning; reflecting some of the unsettling news that is whirling around us at every direction we turn these days. But, as I look around, lights are glowing in all the windows of friends and neighbors as far as I can see, and even automobile headlights reflecting off the fence as they pass my home, provide bursts of additional uplifting luminosity. Just now as I write this, what a surprise I received! My Granddaughter Kayla sent me a “good morning” text along with a picture of her new leotard for gymnastics! Right before my eyes, from that image is shimmering light bouncing off sequins that cover this adorable multi-colored garment! She had no idea what this would mean to me this morning, and the smile it brings to my face!
How we all want to chase darkness away! Don’t we all feel more joyful in the light even in tiny little glimpses of it? How we all want to see clearly where we are and what we’re doing! Light lifts our spirits and provides clarity. With God we are never in total darkness. Within His loving arms we are filled with light and we can be certain, even though we may allow circumstances to rain down upon that light, clouding it over a bit, that light is inextinguishable. And one way or another He will remind us of its presence. How good is our God!
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of light and those who bring reminders of that gift, to us!
