The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still. Exodus 14:14
Isn’t it hard to keep still when something that concerns us needs resolution? It seems we have the mindset that we need do something – anything, to make it right; especially so in times of difficulty with no clear solution visible, and we struggle to be patient while the answers unfold. But sometimes even more so when we feel we have been offended. We often simply react, in an effort to make the perpetrator aware of the wrong that has been committed against us. How often do we feel justified in doing this?
But it also seems almost impossible to feel peaceful when the situation we are in has caused us to feel emotionally distraught. In our anguish we pace and fret as we search for something we can’t even name, and a sense of hopelessness in that grief, or discouragement or even anger, can come about, taking over, perhaps even shutting God out.
In this passage in Exodus, God teaches us so much about coping! He comforts us with the knowledge that no matter what challenges we face, we can carry on doing the work we have to do, with peace in our heart and a calm state of mind, because all the while, in every circumstance, He is fighting for us! We can be at peace, still and calm, going on with life, in the understanding that all is not up to us.
So when life overtakes your heart and mind, take a step back and with deep calming breaths think about the Words in this passage of Exodus. God is with us always, and in His time, we will know, all resolution came from Him.
Heavenly Father, thank you for fighting for us – for those you love. We can keep still and calm in our hearts, knowing you are with us! Abba! Father! We are yours!
