For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face. Psalm 11:7
Recently my husband received a new “gizmo,” as I call all the innovative electronic gadgets that our computer savvy son supplies us with. This little lipstick sized item records every step taken, each stair climbed, calculates that into miles, and even records calories taken in and utilized! Actually, it will even monitor one’s sleeping habits! It is simply incredible to me that this is possible, let alone something that size can do all this without one having to input anything, except diet! At the same time, it’s a little intimidating! I’m not so sure having all my information recorded is a good thing; I may not like what I see! My Roger, on the other hand, can’t wait to view the results of another busy and very active day at work and home. “Look how many miles I walked today!” he states beaming with pride, as he rattles off the figures. Meanwhile, I schlep about doing my best to walk a half mile on my treadmill! I am now thinking one of these little gadgets may be just what I need! Seeing the results of what we do, certainly is a motivator.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had some sort of gizmo that could calculate every thing we did with the hope of bringing us closer to being the person God wants us to be? Every time we responded in loving kindness, each righteous deed we performed, recorded so we can see just how far we’ve come! Even the blessings received and utilized by us for the benefit of others! Perhaps the quiet time spent with God as well! What an amazing device that would be! I wonder if we viewed the results of what we do, at the end of each day, if it would help to motivate us more.
Isn’t God amazing? He thought of all that a long time ago. But this gizmo doesn’t need a microchip to work. He gave us a conscience. All we need to do is log into it at the end of each day for just a few minutes. And as we listen with our hearts, all the results will be there.
We try so hard, Lord to always do the right thing. Help us to listen to our hearts to heighten our awareness of what we need to do to perform righteous deeds for you.
