“Come meet me face to face.” 2 Chronicles 25:17
Have you ever been speaking with someone on a telephone and found that without seeing that person face to face there was difficulty understanding what the person was really trying to say? Face to face conversation is so much more revealing, which is why most people prefer that to any other method of communicating. There is openness, vulnerability, and a level of intimacy we experience when face to face with anyone. Whether it is in one to one conversation or when addressing a multitude of people, face to face communication makes us truly accessible, to be keenly observed and even criticized. The expression in our eyes and on our faces, gestures and other body language speak volumes; giving the observer more information than words articulate. Knowing this can inhibit us a bit; keep us on edge so to speak; yet on the other hand, that openness keeps us on our toes and present to one another.
But with those very dear to us, people who love us flaws and all, we lose that self-consciousness, for in that love we are accepted as we are. How quickly too we sense when something isn’t right with them; when there is a problem that needs to be resolved, when only communication can repair the damage or encourage a heart. Clearing the air and resolving the problem is essential in maintaining any intact relationship. Meeting issues head on and communicating face to face, are key facets in keeping that bond unbroken.
As part of God’s family, how we are loved far more than we can imagine! Each day we meet Him face to face in every life around us; in all His creation from the tiniest insect to the grandeur of the mountains and sea, yet still He waits for us to communicate with Him, to spend some time chatting with Him face to face like a dear, dear friend. He waits for us to share our heartaches and joys, seek forgiveness and guidance. He waits for us to respond in gratitude for the gifts He surrounds us with. He yearns to keep His bond with us whole, and patiently He waits until that time when we meet him “face to face” in glory.
Father, we too yearn to meet you face to face someday. In the meanwhile, help us better communicate with you, face to face each day.
