The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you; they shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways. Deuteronomy 28:7
When we think of enemies, the first thing that may come to mind is someone we may not see eye to eye with. Those everyday conflicts can be endured, if not resolved however, with communication and when we develop understanding of the importance of prayerful consideration of one another. Enemies rise up against us in a variety of ways, though. They can be subtle, such as when our thoughts, our self-esteem, or hope in tomorrow is assailed by doubt. But they can also be endangering, even life threatening; such as when disease of the body affects our health or disease of the spirit affects our faith in God. Their presence instills doubt within us, and gripping often disabling fear, causing us to question all that we once held in certainty. Fear is one of our greatest enemies. When we allow fear to overpower us, it becomes difficult to search out the answers to our questions, and may prevent us from being able to seek the expertise of health professionals or clergy, or the assistance of family and friends and support groups. Then again for some enemies we face, the only thing needed is time; time to think about and adjust to a situation we are in, before we can move forward with it. Prayer opens our hearts to the answers to questions about the enemies we face.
Finding answers to our many questions lessens fear. In this age of the internet, having the ability to seek out information about any topic instantaneously is amazing! There are limitless informational sources at our fingertips. Spiritual websites and books to read are also at the ready of our keyboard. We live in a time of huge medical breakthroughs occurring nearly on a daily basis. How awesome to think about the endless cures and treatments available to heal us of once serious illness! All of this should help us to recognize that facing any enemy is not just up to us; we do not have to be alone with any of them. God has provided this knowledge to us and to those who are there to assist us, so that we may be lead through and healed of the situations we are in. With an open heart, we will see our enemies flee in “seven” endless directions.
When overwhelmed by the enemies that rise up against us oh Lord, may we remember with hope, your promise to have them flee from us in endless directions.
