“This will be a sign to you: You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:12
Down an alleyway in the city and tucked behind the many structures there, a lone, poorly constructed shelter stands, filled with animals needing a place to stay out of the cold. Inside, the cry of an infant being born is heard. A young shepherd boy passing by after searching for one of his lambs notices a peculiar glow emanating from there. Opening the door, he cautiously steps in with his lamb . . . the scent of multiple animals stings his nose as he looks around. There in the corner, amidst the straw, he sees her! Surrounded by mysterious light, a young woman is holding the newborn baby from whom this radiant light seems to emanate! With her husband standing protectively next to her, the young mother is smiling and rocking her little one, tenderly kissing his tiny forehead as she softly sings to him. All around them are the animals - huddled close, keeping them warm, while their low grunting, bleating and baaing sounds seem to chorus the mother’s lullaby.
Although she is spent from her long journey and hours of labor, with a smile on her face, she motions to the small visitor to come closer to see her little baby son. Forward he walks, slowly at first, and then as the baby turns his head to the boy and their eyes fix upon one another, the boy cannot get close to the baby quickly enough; for this little infant, whose eyes dazzle with magnificence, is smiling right at him!
As his lamb prances over toward the Mother and baby and lies right down at the woman’s feet, the shepherd boy sits down along with him, and at that moment he knows in his heart he will never be the same again. At that moment he knows he has been changed forever and this indescribable joy and absolute peace resonating within him will remain. How could he ever be the same after having his soul touched by Jesus? How can we?
Jesus, still today we look for you. Thank you for turning to us and touching our souls with your peace as we rejoice in your birth.
Merry Christmas to you, all my dear blog friends! My prayers are for you and all your families. I wish you, and all you hold close to your heart, God's blessings today and always.ke
