If there be for him an angel, a mediator, one of the
thousand, to declare to a man what is right for him; Job 33:23
An angel! “One out of the thousand!” How amazing is this? However, God tells us in Scripture that this is so. For many of us living with the presence of our Guardian Angels is as commonplace as breathing and many of us were taught “The Guardian Angel Prayer” when we were barely able to talk. (I even sang it as a lullaby to my children and still do with my grandchildren.) Over Christmas, like many of you, we had the privilege of watching our sweet granddaughter, Kayla portray an angel in their Parish Christmas Pageant. Such a reminder of the simple beauty of the angels that surround us! Yet we take for granted that they are there, watching over us, nudging us when needed whether we are aware or not. How extraordinary to think that there are at least a thousand, sent in our direction to assist us! Envision a thousand birds! It actually seems incredulous, but the point here I think, is that they are everywhere! God provides us with a constant presence to assist us. Yes, we are so loved by God that every opportunity is provided for us to hear and feel their nearness, so we may turn to look in His direction. When we act on that inner voice offering us the way, we become closer to Him and we feel His Spirit.
How comforting to know we are so well loved and protected! Angels make their presence known in many ways; from a subtle, quiet touch to attention getting noise louder than bursts of thunder. And these events can leave us scratching our head! Have you felt their company? Have you ever felt a little, sudden flurry of air change around you and wonder where it came from? Have you ever felt that you were no longer alone with a worry you had in your heart, and then in an instant complete clarity about a solution came to you? Have you ever had a persistent fleeting thought about someone and contacted them, to find that your timing could not have been better? They needed you and were thinking of you at the same moment! Have you ever been at a crossroad unsure of which way to go, when suddenly your heart knows which direction to take? Has a friend ever unexpectedly been at your side just when you needed them most? Impulsively have you ever changed your mind about a decision to find it was the best choice you could have made? In the midst of turmoil has a sudden wave of peace enveloped you, calming your spirit, mind and body? Has your heart ever been filled with spontaneous joy? There are so many ways God’s angels present themselves to us. What a gift from God, these angels at our side to assist us on this journey we are on! How good God is, constantly sending help on our journey toward Him! How have His angels shown themselves to you?
Prayer to Our Guardian Angel
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom His love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard to rule and guide. Amen
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Angels. They are your blessed assistants. May our awareness of their heavenly presence increase as we utilize their offers of help.
