For those who have will be given more, and they will have an
abundance. . . . Matthew 25:29
Full to overflowing . . . have you ever felt that way? Like endless, sparkling water cascading down over a waterfall, our abundance – the blessings God quenches our thirst with – are never ending! We have been more than satisfied; filled with love from family and friends, filled with the accomplishment of a job well done, filled with a favorite meal, filled with opportunities of learning and education, filled with ability to complete requests for our time and/or money, filled with faith! Still, it is human nature to think we need more – if some is good, more is better, right?
As a nurse, I sometimes see people unintentionally over-medicate themselves thinking along those lines. When is enough, enough?
Even when the chips are down, we are fortunate to live in a country where opportunities of assistance are available to us. There will always be a need somewhere, and it seems an inherent hunger and longing within for some “thing” we cannot quite identify, is ever present, until we become aware that our abundance is in Him.
When we take a step back and evaluate what we have, and all the days leading up to this point, we see our abundance more clearly. How blessed we have been! Furthermore, to have and to have lost, means we have been full. In this passage God sends a message - what we have is not enough for Him - He promises us abundance, He wants us to be fulfilled! The question is, do we recognize abundance? What is it you are longing for?
Heavenly Father, we hunger for a faith that will see us through to an abundant life; we hunger for you.
