Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
My husband really enjoys being outside in the sunshine and working in our yard! Springtime finds him puttering here and there, rearranging this and that, clearing winter’s debris, pruning shrubs and trying to make a lawn grow that has forever been battered by kids and dogs. His new thing is to replace old path lights with more "green" solar lights and the distribution of them makes all the difference in the world in one’s ability to see safely in the dark. Our elderly parents’ eyesight is dimming now and once unwavering, brisk footsteps are uncertain. Therefore great care is taken to watch over them and guide their way, especially as they enter and leave our home. Our grandchildren’s’ little feet are into hopping and jumping about! Down the stairs and in all directions they go, on the run without a care in the world, paying little attention to the steps they take! The necessity to see where all these precious feet are stepping is of utmost importance and even more so when the sun has set and it is difficult to view the walkway. With my husband’s lights in just the right places, we all know exactly the way when we’re coming or going.
God’s Word illuminates our souls with His direction and love. Our eyes and spirits are drawn to this light, for deep within us once again we remember . . . and yearn for what we know is His eternal gift to us. In the murkiness of doubt and despair, His Word brings us hope. In the darkness of anger and bitterness, His Word brings us peace. In the shadows of jealousy and suspicion His Word renews our trust. In the gloom of loneliness and sorrow, His Word fills us with His love. . . . And once again in this light - His light, we are stepping in the right direction . . . on the path toward everlasting life.
Light the path, oh Lord, that we may clearly see where you are leading us! Abba! Father! We are yours!
