You bestow on him blessings forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence. Psalm 21:6
Spring has finally arrived in New England! At least I think it has. We were teased with a few days of sunny, warm weather in the 60’s and it was exhilarating! But it now has been quite chilly and damp once again! Yet despite the suppression of the typical burst of a full palate of color and greenery, that in all the years I remember we have seen by now, when one stops to really look at things, there are tiny buds of green and bits of color everywhere! The crocus and daffodils are at last in full bloom! And the forsythia bushes, although appearing very lifeless just yesterday, suddenly have some golden yellow flowers hanging like little lamps on their branches this morning! The little houses in our back yard are now occupied with busy little sparrows building their nests in a constant flurry of activity! Things may be delayed, but new life is everywhere. As with all things though, we have to stop and pay attention. God provides so much for us to enjoy, so much to refill our spirits with “new life,” simple, yet extraordinary things meant for us to savor; things right in front of us.
A friend of mine has been blessed with another Grandchild this past week, another is cancer free after months and months of treatment and surgeries, a very dear couple we know has just celebrated 40 years of marriage. Another is celebrating retirement. Friends’ kids are graduating from High School and College and moving on to further education, in an effort to help make this world a better place. We have four little ones in our family preparing to receive their First Holy Communion in a couple of weeks, excitedly anticipating this most special milestone in their lives. With open eyes and hearts we can find something God has placed before us to help renew our spirit.
New life – changes, moments that are fluid. This is life; ever moving, constantly renewing. These life changing moments are not bought with coin, but rather are things freely given by our God to bind our spirit, our very soul to His. Yes, the timing of the appearance of these things may be slower than we’d like, but nonetheless, He showers His blessings upon us constantly; out of His eternal love for us.
And yes. God has blessed us with a new, unexpected little furry family member. She was rescued with her Mama and siblings and flown to us two weeks ago. Mandy is filling our aching hearts with renewed joy and we are beyond grateful. Our Maizy would have loved her peaceful, gentle spirit.
Abba! Father! We are yours!
